New City Catechism Is Up

I will be going through this since I’ve never gone through a catechism. Be sure to read the Introduction first. There is a short question and answer, commentary by various theologians, a short video and a prayer.

New City Catechism

I did have a link to it then took it down. Maybe I just don’t want to be to rush. What’s wrong with the older catechisms (Westminster and Heidelberg) was my question. They were in depth and thorough. Not that I condemn the New City one or think it is a lite version (though it fronts itself as so). Look forward to your review.

I think the first question and answer may be the best. It’s the most challenging thing I’ve read and meditated on in a long time.

They explain why they feel new ones should be made for specific times and congregations, but I’m not sure. One benefit for me is the commentary and videos, although I haven’t actually looked at them yet.

I, along with my wife, just want to do one, and we thought now is the time and maybe this is a good one, especially since it doesn’t take time away from other reading since we’ll do it once a week.

I think a book along with the Heidelberg or possibly Belgic might be really good. I’m not too keen on the Westminster for some reason so I guess I’m a Dutch Reformed Calvinist with Puritanical leanings. I’m almost halfway through the Institutes and I’m right in line with nearly everything he says so far. We’ll see about volume II.

Thank you for reading and your reply.

I’m amazed, I must say. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and amusing, and
without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is an issue that not enough men and women are speaking intelligently about. I’m very happy
that I came across this in my hunt for something regarding this.

    Thank you.
