Note taking in an electronic Bible?

Most of us take notes in our Bible. Most of us switch or get a new Bible or use various Bibles at some point.

If you were to take notes to keep them in one place, potentially forever, what method would you choose? I have Bibleworks, e-Sword and The Word but I’m stuck at one version of e-Sword that I don’t want to upgrade.

In the past I’ve transferred notes and highlighting in paper Bibles but that’s getting ridiculous. However it’s easier to scan and see notes in a paper Bible.

I don’t know.

Jeff, all my bible note taking occurs on OliveTree on my iPad. I also write some notes on my TNIV single column bible because I teach from it.

Robert, although I don’t have OliveTree, are those notes exportable or transferable in any way if Olive goes under or you switch?

I really wish I was a TNIV fan because I’d love that edition and I love my Thinline/Slimline or whatever it’s called.

Jeff, the notes can be backed up on Evernote, which I do and can be emailed as well. Not sure if they are easily imported to another bible program but at least there is that option. Give the NIV 2011 a try it seems like they made some good changes. I just bought the ESV for OliveTree, I really like being able to do side by side comparisons.

I’m trying not to be anti-translations, they all serve their purpose. I think that preference boils down to personal choices. It’s really hard to argue that one translation is better than another. I’m talking about the recent translations (i.e. the usual suspects).

My daughter is a take notes on everything ever read/thought and keep them forever type…Recently she has moderated that behavior some… Hallelujah Jesus! I think she started writing and journaling shortly after birth and I have become the keeper of the library…*; (

    As for me…no notes…no three by fives…if I’m supposed to remember, there’s always the Holy Spirit…*: )

    John 14:26 (New Century Version)

26 But the Helper will teach you everything and will cause you to remember all that I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name.

“This Helper” is most necessary…His data base never gets full and is transferable across all platforms…*; )

Jeff, the latest update to the iPad OliveTree BibleReade 5.0 is amazing! Note taking on this app is superior to anything I have ever used. The way in which they allowmyou to organize your notes is such a big plus, including adding Tags.

Stop by my blog I added a video to shows some of the features.

Nancy, now if the Holy Spirit would tell my wife where she put her keys…

Thanks Robert I’ll take a look.

    Revelation 1:18 (New Century Version)

I am the One who lives; I was dead, but look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys…*; )

  8. 8 Scripture Zealot

    That was great.
