A while ago there was a show your office or desk meme. I thought I would resurrect it because of the new players on the scene and because for some strange reason I thought I would like to show mine.
I won’t nominate anyone because some might not want to show their space for various reasons but please participate on your blog if you’d like.
I have “office” in quotes because I can’t really use my real office anymore because of a very bad back and low energy. It’s disappointing because I have a very nice L shaped desk with two 19 inch monitors and nice pictures on my wall. But I just can’t sit in a chair for long. I do so now only when I need the two monitors.
I’m even limited on the recliner to about two hours so most time is spent lying down. But I have a lot of things available to me and even though we don’t make a lot of money I’m very blessed to have a perfect little house for my wife and I, a really nice living room, a laptop computer and books, as small as the collection is.
1 Timothy 6:17
Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
Below is the picture which you can click on to see a larger one without the numbers. Below the picture you’ll see what each number represents.
- Primary Bible–HCSB Illustrated
- Secondary Bible–NLT Mosaic
- Under the coffee table–NASB; TNIV; NRSV; REB; GNB; Mounce/Mounce Interlinear (NASB/NIV) only used for reference, not reading or learning Greek, notebook, written out prayers, MP3 player
- Lip balm, remote, pencil, highlighters, remote for lamp (out of view) and little fan (see photo below), water, glasses case–always in that order because I’m strange that way and I can reach for them without looking
- Laptop which I sometimes have open when reading a commentary or something with a lot of Scripture references so that I have Bibleworks and E-sword or The Word available and dictionaries and other stuff. I don’t always have this open though and it’s awkward using it one-left handed.
- Lounge Doctor leg pad for helping with the back–worth every penny
- Bookshelf which used to be in my office. Top shelf is favorite books–God, Christ, Jesus, suffering and prayer. Next two are reference, mostly commentaries. Next is books about Calvin and Calvinism, Yancey, devotionals, various other authors and some I don’t like but want to keep. Bottom shelf is empty. That’s about all my books! To help out a poor invalid please buy your Amazon stuff using the search box in the right column.
- Eddie, who is usually on my chest
- Black’s Greek grammar–I keep this handy to work on vocabulary throughout the day
I use my cooling pad backwards and it works pretty well for using the computer. The Vornado Zippi Desk Fan I got from woot.com for $13 (red, lower right) helps keep me cool in the summer with the heat from the computer.
That’s mine. How about yours?

Ed is AWESOME!!! That’s so righteous man! HAHA!
Awesome space, Jeff!
Very cool. I actually do not own a camera…I spent all my money on books and a gym membership.
Thanks guys.
At first I couldn’t figure out who Ed is, then I realized you’re talking about our cat Eddie. You sure seem to like him! I can’t say anymore because I promised not to talk about our cats on this blog. I didn’t want to kick him out of his spot so he got in the picture.
Geoff you got your priorities straight. I used to do photography as a job. I remember what it’s like to be a dirt poor student although I don’t have a lot of money now (as you can see by my bookshelf).
Jeff
Thanks for sharing Jeff! I wouldn’t have moved the cat either. Looks way too comfy.
When you get a chance, I’d love to see that wash stand better
It’s called a wash stand? I may remember my wife calling it a funny name too. Like almost everything it’s from a garage sale. I’ll take a picture of it.
Jeff
haha, yes, it’s called a wash stand. I’ve got a couple and would have more it I could find them. Great size.
Jeff,
I remember my 3 month ordeal of being stuck in bed with a severely injured back. God blessed that time exceedingly, though it was not fun. I always had my feet up on a stack of pillows and a stack of books next to me. That was early 2005 – close enough that I can empathize with you.
Back then, our “bedroom” doubled as an office and a dining room (this always made entertaining a little awkward). But I always had everything I needed very close by.
Looks like you have a perfect set up, Jeff. Thanks for giving us a window into your world.
Blessings,
Derek
You’re welcome Derek. Thanks for the comment. Nice to know others know what it’s like even though I wish others wouldn’t have to go through it even for a short time.
Bedroom and dining room. That does indeed sound awkward. I remember a Bible study host couple who used their dining room as a bedroom for a while. They had kids so I don’t know how they dealt with that.
Jeff
Jeff, I know you are setup that way for medical reasons, but you read exactly the way I do most of the time. I just really enjoy reading laying down for some reason.
Robert I think I used to read lying down sometimes too. Sometimes those 1000 page commentaries can be hard to hold up though. It would be nice to just have it in my lap with an open Bible next to me.
Jeff
jeff are u a pator or bishop? like a church leader?
amy, no I’m just an ordinary guy. I’m a follower not a leader.
