Edward, that must be a very old idea that the necktie would separate the mind from the heart but I’m all for abolishing them.

Peter, I’m definitely a cat person. We had a “wussy dog” that we took over from my mother-in-law though (toy poodle) and I got to love him dearly. Dogs are great too. I like how we can have miniature versions of big wild cats in our homes.

Re #10 Admittedly I do not like neckties and try to wear them as infrequently as possible. With this predisposition I was, therefore, quite happy to see a “theological” justification for their jettison.

In his book THE BOOK OF JEWISH KNOWLEDGE: 613 BASIC FACTS ABOUT JUDAISM (Jason Aronson Inc: Northvale NJ, 1991) Rabbi David E. Cahn-Lipman mentions, in a passing comment, that “many Chasidic men will not wear a tie or scarf while praying because it symbolically separates their minds from their hearts”(p. 147).

This practice of not wearing neckties in one part of Judaism seems like a great idea that we Christian men should also embrace.

And, since it not just while praying that we might not want “to separate our mind from our heart”, perhaps neckties should be phased out completely. Perhaps this could also include clerical collars?

#7 – Even though I roast my own coffee and evaluate coffee for others, I admit I used a bit of milk and sugar because I’m so sensitive to bitterness. But really good coffee roasted well has so many flavors in it naturally, I would never want to add additional flavor and cover up the great flavors God put in it.

#10 – I know that’s a big thing in the church. Never understood the suits. I would even agree with a pulpit but I don’t think a suit has anything to do with respecting the proclamation of God’s words.
