When Trials Come
When trials come no longer fear
For in the pain our God draws near
To fire a faith worth more than gold
And there His faithfulness is told
And there His faithfulness is told
Within the night I know Your peace
The breath of God brings strength to me
And new each morning mercy flows
As treasures of the darkness grow
As treasures of the darkness grow
I turn to Wisdom not my own
For every battle You have known
My confidence will rest in You
Your love endures Your ways are good
Your love endures Your ways are good
When I am weary with the cost
I see the triumph of the cross
So in it’s shadow I shall run
Till You complete the work begun
Till You complete the work begun
One day all things will be made new
I’ll see the hope You called me to
And in your kingdom paved with gold
I’ll praise your faithfulness of old
I’ll praise your faithfulness of old

Thanks for posting this – you can always count on the Gettys for thoughtful, Christ/cross-centered lyrics. They are a very welcome change from the inane “Love me, love you” CCM songs.
My wife leads music in our Wed. night group and she picks good songs.

I would like to tell you how much I enjoy your song. It really helps to keep the proper prospective. When we see what Christ did for us that is where I eyes need to be.
Thank you for being such a blessing your music really speaks to my spirit.
God Bless, Mary Ann
Hi Mary Ann,
The song is by Keith & Kristyn Getty, but I’m glad you like it. They write some great songs. Thanks for stopping by.
Jeff
I listen to this song quite often and I noticed a mistake in your lyrics.
In the fourth stanza, you have: “Till He completes the work begun/Till He completes the work begun” and it should read: “Till You complete the work begun/Till You complete the work begun”
Thanks,
Alanna
Thank you very much Alanna. I copied and pasted the lyrics and wasn’t aware of the mistake. I fixed it. Thanks for stopping by.
Jeff
what does “treasures of the darkness” refer to in stanza 2?
Alanna, that might not have gotten fixed before. It is now.
kaycee, I’m not sure, but it could refer to how God speaks to us when darkness or trials come. Of course, sometimes God leaves us alone for a while and tests our faith in that way too.
Jeff
As with many songs, I’m guessing there are variations in lyrics between albums and live performances, and even between performances.
The YouTube version I’ve been listening to definitely says “Till He completes the work begun” (see, http://youtu.be/KoL3wY4KwA8).
I don’t know how you can reflect slight variations in lyrics when you post online, but I wanted you to know how much I appreciate the effort you went to post these and that your original posting was consistent with the most-viewed version on YouTube.
Thanks for the comment Teressa.

Isaiah 45:3
…and I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I am the LORD, which call thee by thy name, even the God of Israel.
Are you sure this isn’t a song by Fernando Ortega????
I don’t think so unless he sang it.
Jeff
A great book that kinda does as this song states is
Living the cross centered life by cj mahaney
Keeping the gospel the main thing in your life and returning
to see what was accomplished there for
you brings real peace as it is who HE made you
And where your standing God is …
The gospel needs to be lived out not just a one
Time shot but daily remembering what was done/accomplished
For you there
Thanks. That’s my wife’s favorite book.
