About Page Updated

I updated my About page. It was pointed out that it doesn’t have a link for comments. I’m not sure why this is since it’s enabled in the Dashboard. So I would like to use this post for people to write any comments.

Hey Jeff I’ll leave my comment here since I didn’t see a place in your profile. I appreciate what you said about not having to be reformed in order to be a christian. I cant help but think you’ve seen a bit of the opposite of that among radical Calvinists. I am in the process of becoming more reformed in my thinking as it makes more sense to me on a logical level, not to mention the spiritual and stability in my life. Coming from an extreme Charismatic back ground I am happy to see that there are Reformed-Charismatics, I’m sure you disagree with that but that’s cool. Coincidently I’m reading Tozers, Knowledge of the Holy right now that you mentioned in your profile.

    Hi Mike.

I don’t know why my About page doesn’t have the ability to comment. I have it enabled in the Dashboard but it doesn’t show up on the page. Maybe it’s the theme. Maybe I’ll create a post just for comments on it.

BTW I recently updated it with what you talked about.

Yes, the opposite seems to be the norm among many Calvinists unfortunately. Spurgeon said that the “doctrines of grace” are the true gospel or something to that effect and Calvinists use that against others. But they seem unaware of the positive things Spurgeon said of his Arminian friends.

Although I’m not charismatic I don’t disagree with Reformed and Charismatic co-existing. I dabbled with Charismaticism but they were a bunch of kooks, all of them (the ones I knew). I don’t let them skew my view of what true Charismaticism is (I know I made up that term).

Tozer sure had some great things to say.

    Thank you for writing.

    Jeff

I wish I knew enough about CSS to write my own theme, or at the very least, to correct problems with others.

  4. 4 Scripture Zealot

I highly modified the look of mine but don’t know enough about how it interacts directly with WP to correct these kinds of problems.

Thanks, Jeff, for the personal passion you bring to the Scriptures, and your desire to create a forum for others to share.

I appreciated the comments about The Bible as Poetry. I just became acquainted with this great endeavor. The approach is intriguing. However, like others, I was concerned that no names were given in the website, even the person or persons responsible for the translation and some information about them. However, it seems clear that Phil Ward has made a great contribution to Biblical scholarship. His delving more deeply into the various meanings of the original Greek words impresses me.

This coming year I will compete fifty years in ministry, half as a Jesuit, half as a United Methodist elder. One winter night in 1996 I was awake with a longing that people have a more doable method of reading the whole Bible. Making a long story short, that night the Lord gave me the idea of making a three-year lectionary of the whole Bible with readings sensitive to the sacred and solar seasons. Each day of the week is dedicated to a part of the Bible. On Saturday, the readings are from the Torah, following the sequence of readings that occur in every synagogue throughout the world. The result is now a published work, The Bible Through the Seasons. The web address, I believe, is included here with my name.

You might like to check out a unique way of using Twitter for persons around the world to pray the same prayer at the same time. It involves what I call “Bible Breaths” posted every three hours. You might like to check out http://Twitter.com/NickBTS.

Thanks Nick. I read your story. Quite a journey you’ve been through. I agree with what you say about The Bible as Poetry. That’s quite an undertaking. I will take a look at your other links.

I accidentally (so to speak) found your site while looking for some words to help a friend. I find it interesting and I plan to read your post and follow what you are saying for a period of time. I too have been a “Charismaticism” or at least born into it as a child and grew into it as an adult. At times it has left me wondering and at other times void. I try to think of myself as a truth seeker but of late have found myself roaming in a dark and weary land. I feel a strong desire to forget everything I have learned and start over learning for myself. It is as if all I have know is in doubt. I have what I have believed to be a strong faith in Christ. But it is as if my faith no longer corresponds with my knowledge. So, thank you for what you have done with this site. It has given me a place to expand my search.

Hi Kurt. I’m not sure what you mean by Charismaticism but it sounds like you’re in quite a predicament. I hope you can weed out what you’ve learned and separate the truth from the false. I’m sure you know it’s God’s will for Him to give you knowledge and wisdom if you seek it and it looks like you are. I hope you like the blog. Thanks for stopping by.

If your friend is hurting the Suffering Christians blog may be helpful. It’s in the Associate Blogs heading.

Thank you, Kurt, for sharing your search here. As a former Jesuit and a retired United Methodist pastor, I know first-hand the challenges of institutions alone to meet the kinds of needs and feelings that accompany your search.

You may find what I offer in http://biblethroughseasons.com to be a support for you by sensing yourself a part of a community of those who follow a simple, doable way to read the whole Bible in three years. One passage a day is uplifted for us to read. I find Twitter to be a resource for a feature of this program in “Bible Breaths.” With updates in real time, it means that people from around the world can be praying the same Bible phrase at the same time! http://twitter.com/nickbts .

    Be blessed today and always.

  11. 11 Yanina

Hello, Jeff:). I hope you and yours are doing very well. Thank you so much for grouping your insights on the Bible so cohesively:). I understand what you mean about institutions. They have their place, but the follower of Christ must go through with what his or her heart tells him or her. Through prayer, the Lord will show us where He wants us to be for “Wisdom is manifold…” (Wisdom 7); hence, there is no single path for encountering God’s Love. However, we must always pray and ask for His guidance. Thank you again and God bless you and those you love:).

  12. 12 Scripture Zealot

Hello and welcome Yanina. I believe we need to listen to some church teaching as it has be solidified through the ages but sometimes certain groups of people have their sayings and beliefs that aren’t Biblical. So I’m trying to weed through all of that.

Wisdom certainly is manifold but I believe that Jesus is the only way to God’s love (John 14:6).

    Jeff,
I stumbled upon your blog when I was trying to find the verse in Psalms about the undivided heart. I was delighted to find your post on that and printed for my review.

I too am Reformed but don’t believe you can’t be saved unless you are as well. I was saved outside the Reformed Faith.

I am looking forward to reading more of what you have here.

A blogger was boasting about, “NetBible.org.”

Matthew 1.1 was from the Pope: “Jesus Christ.”

The Greek reads “Iesous Anointed.” Iesous is banned 977 times. “Anointed” is banned 490 times.

This was predicted (Rev 13.6), “Three Blasphemies of the Beast” (Papacy) — #1 is — blaspheme the name of God.

I have a better translation with the names of the Gods.

Rachel, thank you so much for your offer. I have so much to read right now and a couple to review that I don’t have time to review any others right now. But I approved this post so others can see it and to remind myself if the time should come for me to want to review one of these books.

Jeff, appreciate your search. Scripture and prayer are the great adventures of this life. I have only read a few of your pieces but I would warn not to let intellection overwhelm the joy of the mysterious. We can only see though the glass darkly. Much must remain enigmatic and even mystical.
On another note, I like you have a special love for the Gospel of John. I am sure you would be blessed and even enlightened by our family’s video of chapter 1 of the same. We’re called “biblebuds” on YouTube. Look for John1.

16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, 17 comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. 2 Thessalonians 2:16–17

  19. 19 Scripture Zealot

Thanks Brian. Believe me, I also embrace the mystery and also know there is plenty we won’t know or be able to figure out. Thanks for stopping by. I’ll look for your videos.

P.S. Intellection is an interesting word
