To Whom It May Concern,

I work for the marketing department of Collins, a division of HarperCollins Publishers. I am excited to share with you a new title that we're publishing: Unholy Business by Nina Burleigh.

After visiting your website I feel this book would be a great fit for your readers. Unholy Business tells the fascinating story of today's thriving biblical antiquities forgery trade centered on one trial in Israel and featuring a memorable cast of detectives, collectors, forgers and art experts.

Would you be interested in receiving a copy of the book for potential for review, feature, or interview? We can provide books for giveaway.

Please email or call with any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best. Abigail

Richard, I love these confessions you have noted. I'm not against confessions altogether. I'm against the misuse and abuse of them. :-)

TC, The OT is full of confessions, the most basic being Deuteronomy 6:4. Then of course we have Deuteronomy 26:5-11, Psalm 78 and a host more.In the NT we have 1 Timothy 3:16 "Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body, and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angel, and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world, and taken to heaven in glory."

Esteban yes I'm leaning and learning. Thank you for that information. I will definitely look up the Belgic confession. I can't remember if that was mentioned in the Tabletalk issue but it probably was.

I'll be interested if you post on it TC. Then I'll watch Esteban dismantle your argument. (smiley would go here)
Jeff

For some odd reason, I find myself resenting catechisms. I don't know why. Maybe I'll have to do a post on that matter.

Very interesting, Jeff! I did not realize that you have confessional Reformed leanings. As far as I am concerned, the best of the Reformed standards are the Belgic Confession and the Heidelberg Catechism. If you haven't yet read the former, I warmly encourage you to do so.I remember Tabletalk magazine, and in my day I attended my share of Ligonier conferences (usually around Chicago). As for the Heilderberger, well, you will note that it is divided in 52 Lord's Days. This is because the Sunday evening service in the Dutch Reformed tradition was always dedicated to the exposition of the Biblical doctrines contained in the Catechism, and so it was divided into 52 sections to facilitate that task. (In fact, the Church Order of the Synod of Dort, and follwing it the Church Orders of most Dutch Reformed churches in either side of the Atlantic, mandate that the whole catechism be covered in a year's time.) I have, then, not only heard a goodly number of "catechism sermons," but preached many of them myself!

Thanks. After "becoming" (whatever that means, however that happened) Reformed and reading some things about confessions and catechisms, which I didn't used to like or see the value of, I came across this one and really like how it matches the beliefs directly with Scripture. So while I'm not yet sure if it's my favorite--I haven't read all of them completely--it works very well for this blog and is something with features I could offer that I couldn't find elsewhere.

I first got interested in the confessions from a sample issue of Tabletalk magazine (R.C. Sproul) devoted to them.
Jeff

How wonderful, Jeff! Excellent job. How did you come to be interested in the Catechism? (I was Dutch Reformed before I became Orthodox, and so the Heidelberger is very much a part of my life's blood.)
