Bryon, sorry I misunderstood what I thought was a misunderstanding of the original post. You were expanding on all as I did with everything. I'm a little dull sometimes. And thanks for the link. I hadn't really looked into that popular Revelation verse.

I would love to compile a list of commonly misinterpreted Scripture. I'm sure there are many that I get wrong.

It's indeed very interesting as Stan said. Amazing what one or two misunderstood words out of context can do.

It seems to me, Jeff, that “all things” can be easily taken out of context and made to say what it doesn’t really say when in its context; the same is true for “everything” (which, by the way, is also how the NLT renders it.) However, I think that “all things” is also more easily misunderstood within its context than “everything”.”Everything” is easily taken out of context as well, but i think it’s clearer within its context. Of course, “all this” seems to make things crystal clear when read within the passage, and makes little sense outside of its context. So I have to vote for “all this”.

Maybe I wasn’t clear but I’m praising the TNIV here. I’m trying to make the point that “all” and “everything” isn’t always all inclusive. Maybe I should reword the post to make it more clear.

This might be a tad off subject, but “all” doesn’t always mean “all”. “All” can end up being misread easily when a verse of quoted off on its own. ”All” needs to be determined sometimes by the context and a lot of it. And yes, some of the criticism over verses in the TNIV are because the TNIV is stopping you from taking the verse out of context..

Revelation 22:18-19 is another one that is often abused and the TNIV stops this by using the word “scroll” instead of “book”.
