Quote of the Day

The greater part of wisdom consists in understanding the relationships between complementary truths.

–Dick Gaffin

Matthew 21:22
And everything—whatever you ask in prayer, believing—you will receive.”

1 John 5:14
Now this is the confidence we have before Him: whenever we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

I’m not certain if these verses are exactly the idea that Mr. Gaffin is referring to but they came to mind as I read the quote.

This quote was taken from an interview with David Powlison.

Wisdom is an interesting study. If one will go through the Scriptures (both OT & NT) there is a discovery that wisdom is a gift given from God when one seeks Him and it. Out of wisdom flow many things, insights, revelation of the knowledge of Him, true knowledge and on and on. Wisdom is a by-product of time with the Lord — not a by-product of age, nor of knowledge. It is an interesting study. “For the Lord gives wisdom . . ” (Prov. 2 I believe).

Thanks. I agree. My favorites are Proverbs 2:1-5, 4:20-21 and 9:10.

I’ve seen enough older people who have gone backwards in maturity and wisdom to know that wisdom doesn’t necessarily come with time.
