The author-translator also produced a pro-gay NT, so expect a pro-gay bias in The Source too.

I have The Source in both PDF form and paperback, and have read all of it, including the notes.While I find the vocabulary somewhat awkward at times, the notes are most intriguing. However, it does seem that Nyland bends over backwards at times to argue for a particular meaning (see Temporary Eternity). Since Nyland is the expert on Greek and I'm not, I have to assume her research on word meanings is accurate. But as I noted in Temporary Eternity, the technically correct meaning is not necessarily correct in context. I view her arguments on homosexuality in the same way; the overall context, both immediate and the wider context of the entire Bible, leaves no room for acceptance of the practice. Some argue that the NT writers could not have imagined an intimate, same-sex relationship between equals, but this ignores (1) the divine inspiration of the text and (2) the radical departures from societal norms that permeate the NT. Paul was no mere "product of his time" and "imagined" quite a lot that society didn't. In Christ, there was to be no superiority at all, whether between races, classes, or sexes (Gal. 2:28). So that meant every relationship between believers was one of equality. Therefore, to condemn arsenokoites among believers was to condemn same-sex intimacy even between believers.But I wish I could get more references for the sources Nyland used, since people who are hostile to new word meanings and always point to existing dictionaries as authoritative insist on scholarly support from more than one source. In spite of Nyland being a qualified scholar, she is routinely brushed off due to her views on homosexuality. So if anyone knows of other authorities that could be quoted on the issue of word meanings, I'd be most grateful.

I have known about this translation and owned a copy for several years. It was also mentioned in 2005 on Better Bibles Blog. But see also this 2007 post about a a Study New Testament for Gay, Lesbian, Bi, and Transgender based on the text of The Source. The ordinary notes in The Source are neutral on homosexual issues, but I understand why some people may have objections because of this.Amazon's 2007 publication date is wrong. My copy says "First published in 2004", and that is about when I bought mine, direct from the Australian publishers. In fact I knew about the project some time before this as I used to know Ann Nyland. The Amazon copyright page replaces my "© Copyright by Ann Nyland 2004" with "© Copyright by Ann Maxwell-Nithsdale Nyland 2004, 2007.", and there is a new ISBN, but no suggestion that this is a new edition.By the way, how did you get WYSIWYG comments in WordPress? Is this an add-on?

Did you notice how idiomatic the word choices were? I wonder what sort of reading level this is at. I am particularly interested in her use of the Greek notes and inclusion of insights from papyrii and classical usage. I’ll probably spend more time later with the pdf, though I’m super busy this week.
