Jeff, I like that O'Brien quote. Yes, we need to take that verse in context, but I guess we can make a general application.

TC, you're right in regards to Galatians 2:14 as an example. The way I've seen it used is to point out people's personal faults unrelated to the gospel or doctrine. I probably should have been more clear in my post.

"Speaking the truth in love" is a type of tough love. Paul was consumed by the truth of the Gospel. Consider his bold confrontation with Peter in Gal 2.

I'm not into Rob Bell but I see what you're saying.

If I wasn't a Christian and someone said "repent for the kingdom is at hand" I would have no idea what they're talking about. In fact as a Christian I don't know what "at hand" means.

Your post reminds me of the Nooma video I recently watched call Bullhorn (I think). It is narrated by Rob Bell and is part of his whole short video series and is worth watching if you can find a copy. Basically it addresses the whole street corner witnessing where you are yelling at people to 'repent for the kingdom is at hand.' By addresses I mean that it demonstrates the futility and dare I say idiocy of the practice, and how the good news should be shared in a spirit of love.
