I’ve been thinking about this one … 1COR13:3 …
it seems like the parallelism used in the Bible often, it seems like “bestowing all my goods to feed the poor” and giving my “body to be burned” are similar in laudability or praiseworthiness.
Is this quote suggesting that the Christian thing to do is to have a cremation?
I think what MacArthur is saying is that Scripture doesn’t say anything about what type of burial or what is done with a body after it dies is proper.
I wouldn’t imagine that 1 Cor 13:3 applies to this.
“If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” (TNIV)
Some translations use “burned” as you quoted but I don’t think that is referring to cremation.
